Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University baseball welcomed St. Xavier University and Bates College to Heart of Florida Field, Friday. The Warriors edged St. Xavier in game one, 5-3, and closed the day out with a resounding, 12-0, victory over Bates in game two.
Derrick Pezon was hot at the plate going 4-8 with four RBI. Lenin Sanchez was effective from the leadoff spot, going 4-6 with two steals. Daniel Timmons was deadly against Bates, picking up five RBI on 2-4 hitting.
Colin Richardson earned the win in game one after four innings of solid work, while Ryan Labrador earned his first save of the season. Taylor Layner was stellar in game two, striking out 10 on his way to a three-hit shutout.
St. Xavier 3, Webber International 5
The two teams traded salvos to open the game, with Ramon Sanchez tying the game in the bottom with a sacrifice fly.
Webber International took control of the game in the third inning. Pezon picked up an RBI on a sharply hit single through the left side. Connor Clayton pushed home another run with a laser down the left field line. Layner closed out the inning with a sacrifice fly to deep center, putting the Warriors up, 4-1.
St. Xavier cut the Webber International advantage to 4-3 in the top of the fourth. Pezon came up with an answer in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single up the middle.
The Warrior bullpen would shutout St. Xavier over the next three innings, with Webber International winning out, 5-3.
Bates 0, Webber International 12
the Warriors exploded for 12 runs in the first two innings of action against Bates College.
Webber International opened the bottom of the first with two outs, but would go on to score four runs. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch would load the bases for Sjaghbar Martis, who earned an RBI with a walk of his own. Timmons then cleared the bases with a double to right center, putting the Warriors up, 4-0.
The Warriors would collect nine hits in the second innings, adding eight more runs to their advantage.
L. Sanchez led off the inning with a bunt single. Pezon then crushed the ball to center field for an RBI triple. A wild pitch would allow a second run to score. Timmons picked up his fourth and fifth RBI with a single through the left side.
With two outs on the boards, Webber International still had four more runs in them. Daniel Aviles picked up a run off a double to right, bring the top of the line up for a second go. L. Sanchez, Pezon and R. Sanhez all picked up their second hits of the inning, with Pezon and R. Sanchez pushing home runs, bring the score to 12-0.
Layner would take over from there, limiting Bates to only two hits, while striking out six.
After the final out was called, the Warriors were victorious, 12-0.
