Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University baseball closed out a three-game series against No. 2 St. Thomas, Saturday. The Warriors let a late lead slip in the game one loss, 10-8, but bounced back in game two to win in a nail bitter, 12-11.
Lenin Sanchez had a fantastic day at the plate, going 5-7 with five RBI and a homerun. Brent Kaminsky was vital in the Warriors lone victory, going 3-4 with four RBI and a walk.
St. Thomas 10, Webber International 8
The Warriors went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the nation, but four errors would be their down fall.
After five innings, Webber International trailed the Bobcats, 4-3, thanks in part to L. Sanchez's homerun. The Warriors would take its first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to an L. Sanchez single and Sjaghbar Martis home run. In the seventh, Ramon Sanchez added to the Webber International lead with a solo homerun of his own.
A big eight inning from the Bobcats put them back into the lead, 8-6. St. Thomas would eventually go up 10-6.
Down four, the Warriors came close to forcing extra innings. With two out and two on, Martis ripped a double to deep left center bring the score to 10-8 in favor of the Bobcats. Unfortunately, Webber International could not keep things going, falling 10-8.
St. Thomas 11, Webber International 12
The Warrior offense carried the team to a stunning, 12-11, upset of No. 2 St. Thomas.
St. Thomas jumped ahead early on, scoring 4 runs in the first while the Warriors only scored one. In the next two innings Webber International exploded for seven runs. Four runs cross thanks to great hitting, while three more crossed home thanks to bases-loaded walks.
Webber International would pour on two more runs in the fifth, bringing the score to 10-5 in favor of the Warriors.
The Bobcats struck back in the final four innings, scoring five runs and retaking the lead at 11-10.
Two walks and a single loaded the bases for
Taylor Layner in the bottom of the ninth. Layner would launch the ball deep to left for a walk off sacrifice fly, 12-11.
