Baseball Falls to No. 2 St. Thomas in Game One

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University baseball hosted No. 2 St. Thomas, Friday night, in game one of a three-game set. After taking an early lead the Warriors could not keep up with the Bobcats, eventually falling, 9-4.

Taylor Layner and Jordan Thomas each registered two RBI with their lone hits of the game, with Thomas' hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth. Sjaghbar Martis and Jake Frisosky both hit well, picking up two hits each against strong St. Thomas pitching. Colin Richardson put in a good performance against the Bobcats, striking out four and allowing only two earned runs over 6.2 innings.

The action got going early as both team picked up runs in the first inning. With two outs, the Bobcats were able to push a run home in the top of the first. The Warriors found an immediate response as Layner's single put Webber International ahead 2-1.

The Bobcats would go on to score the next eight runs to push ahead, 9-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, Webber International looked to mount a comeback. Martis opened the inning with a well struck single. Mike Castilla would reach first on a fielder's choice after Martis was thrown out at second. Thomas then stepped in as a pinch hitter and promptly set the ball over the outfield wall, cutting the Bobcat advantage to 9-4. Unfortunately, the Warriors could not keep momentum going, dropping game one to St. Thomas.
