Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University baseball hosted Ave Maria, Friday night, in game one of a three-game set. The Warriors took a big lead after six innings but had to quell a ninth inning comeback to defeat the Gyrenes, 12-8.
Ramon Sanchez continues to be hot at the plate, going 4-5 with four RBI in game one. Colin Richardson picked up his third win of the season after pitching six innings, striking out five and allowing only two earned runs.
Pitching dominated the early goings, till the Warriors broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth. Lewis Alex Rodriguez, Taylor Layner and Sjaghbar Martis all drove in runs in the inning, pushing Webber International ahead, 3-0.
After six and half inning, Ave Maria had cut the Warriors advantage to 3-2, but the Warriors exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Warriors would open the inning with four consecutive hits to take a 5-2 lead. Sanchez would rip a single through the left side, driving in two more runs. The big inning would close with the Warriors taking a 9-2 advantage after a failed pickoff attempt allowed a run to cross the plate.
The bottom of the eight would see the Warriors pick a run on a wild pitch, while Sanchez would pick up two more RBI with another hard hit single, pushing ahead 12-3.
Ave Maria nearly made a comeback in the top of the ninth, scoring five runs, but the Warriors would hold on for the, 12-8, victory.
