Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball welcomed Southeastern, Saturday, in an important Sun Conference game. The Warriors would go down 10 after the first half, but battled back to win out, 85-82.
Dewaine Lyals was magnificent against the Fire, scoring a career-high 39 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. Lyals shot an impressive 16-25 from the field and 7-9 from the free throw line. Sam Auguste and Sheldon Durant were strong off the bench, scoring 11 points, respectively.
Both teams came out fast in the first half, with the game tied at 17-17 early on. A 13-5 run by the Fire would put them ahead, 31-22, after 10 minutes of action.
The Southeastern offense was strong to close out the first half, pushing its advantage as high as 15. The Warriors outscored the Fire 7-2 in the final two minutes, going into halftime down, 52-42. Lyals would post 20 points in the first half on his way to a career night.
Lyals opened the second half by scoring 13 of the Warriors first 16 points, single-handedly bring Webber International within one, 59-58. Layups from Auguste and Daniel Coffey would give the Warriors their first lead, 64-63, since it scored the first basket of the game.
The lead would change hands 14 times in the space of five minutes, with the Warriors coming out the other end ahead, 77-76, with five minute left in the game. Webber International would have to fend off the Fire, never going ahead by more the three. As the game came to a close, the Warriors nullified Southeastern's late-game fouling by going 4-4 from the line, holding on to win 85-82.
