Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla. – Webber International University baseball opened the 2016 season with a two-game series against Warner University. The Royals edged out the Warriors in the first game, 7-6, but Webber International dominated the second game, winning out, 7-0.
Webber International 6, Warner 7
The first game of the season was a barn-burner, seeing 13 total runs. The Royals came out fast, going up 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Timely hitting from the Warriors and two Warner errors allowed Webber International to take a, 5-4, lead after four innings of action.
The top of the fifth saw the Royals notch two more runs, going up, 6-5. In the bottom of the fifth, Connor Clayton stepped into the box with the bases loaded after two walks and a double. Clayton showed patience at the plate, eventually getting hit by a pitch to tie the game at 6-6.
After a quiet sixith inning, the Royals were able to sneak in a run after grounding into a double play. Unfortunately, the Warriors could not responded, falling 7-6.
Webber International 7, Warner 0
An early offensive outburst and stellar pitching would see the Warriors dominate the second game of the season, winning out 7-0. Jacob Lopez, Ramon Sanchez and Sjaghbar Martis tallied two RBI, respectivley, while Taylor Layner picked up his first win of the season after throw five scoreless innings.
