Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Webber International University opened Sun Conference play with a road match against Johnson & Wales. A big first half powered the Warriors past the Wildcats, 4-3. Sophomore
Sam Todd was the star, netting a hat trick for the Warriors.
Webber International came out fast, getting on the board in the in the fifth minute. Senior defender
Ross Clarke made a strong run down the left flank and played a fantastic ball to Tood, who finished the chance for his first goal of the match.
The Warriors continued to push the tempo, breaking through for a second time in the 32nd minute. A series of precision passes left sophomore
Sean Whalen one-on-one with the keeper. Whalen easily rounded the net minder and slotted the ball in to the empty net to put Webber International up, 2-0.
Just five minutes later, Todd scored his second goal of the match thanks to a great ball from
Ivan Bakovic, pushing the Warrior advantage to 3-0. Nearing halftime, junior
Niall Doherty led Webber International on a counter attack which was finished by Todd, after he slotted the ball in between the keepers legs, securing his hat trick and giving Webber International a 4-0 lead.
Johnson & Wales pushed back in the second half scoring three unanswered goals. The half saw two tough penalty calls go against the Warriors. The Wildcats were able to convert the first penalty kick, but
Randy Chesson came up with an outstanding save on the second. That one goal made the difference for the Warriors, fortifying the, 4-3, victory.
The Warriors are back in action, Saturday, September 26 at 3 p.m. against Keiser.
