BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors baseball team hosted the 12
th ranked NAIA Bellevue University Bruins at 12:00 p.m. The Warriors found themselves on top after nine innings winning the game over the Bruins 5-3.
The Warriors started off fast putting the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when
Ramon Sanchez singled driving in
AJ Arroyo, 1-0. The Bruins tied the game in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Miles Campbell, 1-1. Webber responded in the bottom of the fourth regaining the lead on another single by
Ramon Sanchez bringing in
AJ Arroyo, 2-1. The Warriors extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when
AJ Arroyo singled scoring
Lenin Sanchez, 3-1. The Bruins cut Webber's lead to one run as they Kevin Rodriguez hit a solo homerun, 3-2. In the bottom of the 8
th inning the Warriors scored two runs,
Taylor Reeves and
Derrick Pezon, on a throwing error by the Bruins pitcher and first baseman, 5-2. In the top of the ninth the Bruins scored one run on another solo homerun this time by Tyler Blood ending the game, 5-3 Warriors on top.
Sean Stanislawski collected the win for the Warriors pitching staff and
Nathan Burke collected the save.
The Warriors record improves to 15-10 overall and they remain 4-5 in The Sun Conference. The Bruins record falls to 12-4 for the season.
The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, March 10
th as they the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a double header starting at 4:00 p.m. on the Heart of Florida Field. Come support the Warriors as they try to extend their winning streak to six games.
