AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors baseball team returned to Bowie's Ballpark in Ave Maria taking on the Gyrenes in the last two games of the conference series. The Warriors won game one 11-3 and the Warriors won game one today 14-3 followed by a 19-3 win.
Game OneThe Warriors put the first runs on the board in the top of the second inning scoring six runs. Webber extended the lead in the top of the fourth inning with two more runs, 8-0. In the top of the sixth they scored two more runs and one more in the top of the seventh, 11-0. The Gyrenes scored their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning bringing in three runs, 11-3. The Warriors ended the game in the top of the eighth inning as they scored three more runs going up 14-3.
Leading the Warriors on the field were:
AJ Arroyo hitting four for four at the plate with five RBI's and he scored two runs;
Lewis Alex Rodriguez went two for five at the plate with two RBI's and scored two runs;
Joey Howes also went two for five at the plate but only scored one run.
Gustavo Martinez collected the win for the Warriors pitching staff. Martinez threw the entire game and had 12 strikeouts only giving up eight hits and three runs.
Game TwoThe Warriors started the last game of the series where they left off scoring the first runs of the game in the top of the first inning with two. The Gyrenes responded in the bottom of the inning scoring one run, 2-1. In the bottom of the second inning Ave Maria tied the game scoring one run, 2-2. The Warriors rallied in the top of the third inning scoring eight runs, 10-2. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Gyrenes scored their last run of the game, 10-3. The Warriors scored nine runs over the last three innings of the game winning in the 7
th inning 19-3.
Leading the Warriors on the field were;
AJ Arroyo hitting four for four with four RBI's and scored three runs;
Taylor Layner went two for three at the plate and scored two runs;
Cody Warren scored three runs for the Warriors;
Lenin Sanchez scored three runs as a pinch runner for the Warriors during the game.
Benjamin Feinman collected the win for the Warriors pitching staff.
The Warriors record improves to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in The Sun Conference.
Webber's baseball team will return to action on Thursday, February 26
th as they host Davenport University starting at 7:00 p.m.
