Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Webber International University men's basketball opened Sun Conference play, Wednesday night, on the road against No. 14 Southeastern. After a tightly-contested first half, the Warriors offense came alive in the second half to upset the Fire, 93-75.
Dewaine Lyals was dominant, scoring a team-high 20 points on 9-12 shooting. Five other Warriors surpassed the double-digit scoring mark, with Sam Aguste netting 15 points, Jovany Deceus, Daniel Coffey and Sheldon Durant scoring 13 points and Ronzell Evans posting 12 points.
The Sun Conference match up was tense from the get-go. The Fire wrestled control early on, opening the game with an 11-point run. The Warriors responded with a 13-point run of its own to take their first lead. The teams went on to trade baskets, with Webber International going ahead, 21-18, after 10 minutes.
Six-unanswered baskets by the Warriors, gave them their largest lead of the game at 27-18. Again, Southeastern found a response scoring seven straight points to cut the Webber International lead to one point. After a frantic 20 minutes, the Warriors held a slim, 36-35, advantage.
The Warrior offense was sharp in the second half outscoring the Fire by 17 points, while shooting 60% from the field. Webber International led every second of the second half, pushing its advantage as high as 17 points. Webber International's defense was also strong in the second half, forcing the Fire in to 10 turnovers and a shooting percentage of 40.
After the final whistle blew, Webber International had upset No. 14 Southeastern on its home court, 93-75.
