Men’s Basketball Narrowly Edged By Florida Memorial, 75-72

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball hosted Florida Memorial University in a Sun Conference match up, Wednesday. In a closely contested game, the Warriors would eventually fall to the Lions, 75-72.

Four Warriors players topped the double-digit mark, led by Daniel Coffey's 20. Close behind was Sam Auguste, who netted 18 points of his own. Freshman Ronzell Evans made his first career start, scoring seven points and hauling in a game-high 11 rebounds. Giovanni Poitier also had a strong game barley missing a double-double, recording 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Warriors were sharp in the first half, especially from the three-point line. Webber International went 6-11 from beyond the arch on its way to building a, 37-31, lead at half time. Auguste was on fire in the first half, going 5-7 from the field and 3-4 from the three-point line.

Through the first 10 minutes, the Warriors and the Lions battled back and forth with Webber International building a small two-point lead. The Warriors offense continued to click while ratcheting it up on defense. Webber International would see its lead reach as high as 10 points and would head into halftime with a 37-31 advantage.

Webber International continued to play well in the second half, but Florida Memorial did as well. Coffey led the charge in the second half, keeping the Warriors in the game with 13 points. The Warriors dominated the second half early on, pushing their advantage as high as 12 points. Turnovers would plague Webber International the rest of the game, allowing Florida Memorial to chip away at the Warrior lead. The Lions regained the lead with 10 minutes to play at 58-57. The Warriors continued to fight never falling behind by more than four points.

In the bonus early on, the Warriors stayed in the game with excellent free throw shooting. Webber International hit 11 shots from the charity stripe in the final 10 minutes of the game. Down three, the Warriors came down the court for the final possession of the game. Unfortunately, the Warriors could not find a game-tying basket, falling to Florida Memorial, 75-72.
