Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball hosted Bryan College, Friday. The Warriors held off a strong Lions team, eventually winning in overtime, 85-82.
Daniel Coffey lead the team with 24 points and added nine rebound, five of them offensive rebounds. The rest of the starting five netted double-digit points. Jovany Deceus scored 16 points and hauled in nine rebounds of his own. Dewaine Lyals just missed a triple-double, netting 11 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking eight shots.
The first half opened with both teams trading baskets. An early, 11-0, run by Bryan put the Warriors behind, 21-10. After the first 10 minutes, the Warriors faced a thirteen-point deficit. Webber International caught fire in the final six minutes of the half, outscoring the Lions, 14-8, going into half time down just eight points, 43-35.
Webber International came out fast in the second half, scoring seven unanswered points to cut Bryan's lead to one. The Lions were also hot at the start of the second half, eventually building a double-digit lead midway through. The Warriors and Lions would go on to trade points with Webber International still trailing by 11 with two minutes left to play.
Facing sure defeat, the Warriors held strong and mounted an amazing comeback. Coffey kicked the comeback off with a four-point play. After an 9-1 run, Webber International was still down two points with only 13 seconds to play.
Deceus was able to draw a foul with time ticking down. He stepped to the line and calmly hit the first free throw. Deceus missed the second free throw but Lyals skied over multiple Bryan players and hauled in a crucial rebound. The ball eventually found its way to Giovanni Poitier who finished at the rim with just seconds left to force overtime.
Overtime was tense with the neither team willing to relinquish the lead. A quick, 5-0, Lions run knotted the game up at 82-82 with 18 seconds left in the game. Sam Auguste took the ball down the court for the Warriors final possession. Auguste watched the time run down, eventually hitting a deep three as the final horned sounded, lifting the Warriors to victory.
