Volleyball Closes 2015 on a High Note

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University volleyball finished out the 2015 season with a two-match home stand. The Warriors first hosted St. Thomas, Friday, and closed out the season, Saturday, against Florida Memorial.

The Warriors battled hard against the Bobcats, but eventually fell, 3-1. The first set saw Webber International go point-for-point with St. Thomas early on. After the Warriors took an 8-6 lead, St. Thomas went on a seven-point run, eventually taking the set 25-17.

Webber International played one of its best sets of the year, in the second set, winning out 25-23. The Warriors found themselves up, 20-18, St. Thomas rattled off four straight points. Webber International stood strong and went on a, 5-1, run to close out the set.

Unfortunately the Warriors could not carry the momentum in to the rest of the match, losing out 3-1.

In the second match of the weekend, the Warriors dominated the Lions. The first set saw Webber International in control throughout. Florida Memorial's only lead came at 1-0. The Warriors would go on three separate runs of at least four points to take the set, 25-15.

Florida Memorial pushed back in the second set, but Webber International weathered the storm to win the set, 28-26. With the score at 26-25 in favor of the Lions, the Warriors took the next three points thanks to a service ace from Lauren Dehls and kills from Candiss Baxter and Kaley Cox, winning the set, 28-26.

The third set saw Florida Memorial lead early on. The Warriors were unfazed, eventually taking the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.

Honoring the Class of 2015
Webber International took time before Saturday's match to pay respect to the graduating class of 2015. Bethany Forsyth and Baxter have had a major impact on the Warrior volleyball program and Webber International is sad to see them go.

Baxter put together a career season as a senior, tallying a career-best 57 kills, eight assists and 22 digs, nine solo blocks and 32 block assists. In two season with the Warriors, Baxter totaled 106 kills, 33 digs, 12 solo blocks and 54 block assists.

Forsyth posted career-highs in almost every category as a senior. In 65 sets, she collected 85 kills and 30 total blocks. In her two season with Webber International, Forsyth finished with 151 kills and 60 total blocks.
