Women’s Soccer Nets Five Against Warner, Bolster Postseason Chances

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's soccer closed out the 2015 season, Wednesday, hosting archrival Warner. The Warriors dominated throughout, defeating the Royals, 5-2.

Webber International opened the floodgates early, scoring twice in the first six minutes of the match. In the fifth minute, Marisela Rivera played a great ball from the right wing that found Ines Ordeix open in the box, finishing it in the final game of her Webber career. A minute later, Cierra Abundez netted her 18th goal of the season after a perfect long ball from Laura Borders put her one-on-one with the keeper.

Warner was able to get on the bored after converting on a penalty, thanks to a tough foul call in the box for Webber International, bring the score to 2-1. In the 23rd minute the Roylas were able to draw even at 2-2.

The Warriors quickly responded, retaking the lead in the 36th minute. Jenna Murphy calmly converted a penalty shot, pushing the Webber International lead to 3-2. Just before half time, Janel Ebanks saw a shot ping of the goal post, eventually sending the Warriors in to halftime with the, 3-2, advantage.

Webber International did not lose a step in the second half, scoring two more goals early on. Abundez netted her second goal of the match in the 56th minte after an Ebanks through ball opened her up in the box. Abundez secured a hat trick a minute later after she run past the entire Warner defense, putting the Warriors ahead, 5-2. Abundez finished her senior season with a Sun Conference-best 20 goals.

Holding a three-goal lead, the Warriors did not let up against their crosstown rivals. Webber International was able to put 10 more shots on goal and were unlucky to build on its lead. One of the best opportunities came in the 83rd minute, when an Ordiex free kick hit the crossbar.

After 90 minutes, the Warriors had blown out Warner, 5-2.
