Football Rumbles Past Ave Maria, 35-7

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Webber International University football was on the road, Saturday, for a Sun Conference match up with Ave Maria. The Warriors dominated both side of the ball, blowing out the Gyrenes, 35-7.

Webber International's rush offense was unstoppable, racking up 279 yards and five touchdowns. The Webber defense was stifling, limiting Ave Maria to 188 total yards and only one touchdown. Darius Page rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown, while Brendan Deshields ran 71 yards and three touchdowns.

Tyler Clark had a strong day, finishing with 10 tackles and an interception. Edward Roberts played well from the defensive end spot, making six tackles and recording two sacks.

The Warriors first touchdown drive saw a healthy dose of Deshields, who ran the ball six times, capped off with his first touchdown of the day. Webber International' second touchdown came off a bruising 14-play seven-minute drive led by Page. Page ran the ball 10 times, allowing Garry Chouloute to punch it in from two yards out, putting the Warriors ahead 14-0.

The second quarter saw much of the same, as Webber International controlled both sides of the ball. Ave Maria was able to contain the Webber offense early on, but with eight minutes left before halftime, the Warriors crossed the goal line again.  A deep 31-yard completion from Chouloute to Keenon Davis, set up a Deshields goal line plunged, pushing the Warrior lead to 21-0. Late in the second half, Page finally found the end zone after a hard day's work, capping off an 11-play 70 yard drive. Just before halftime, Clark intercepted the Ave Maria quarterback, sending Webber International into the locker room with a commanding, 28-0, lead.

The third quarter saw Ave Maria push back. The Gyrenes were able to score their only touchdown, while shutting out Webber International.

The Warriors responded well after a tough third quarter, shutting out the Gyrenes again. Webber International opened the final quarter with another grinding drive. Deshields once again battered the Ave Maria defense, rushing for 21 yards and his third touchdown of the game. With a massive, 35-7, lead, Webber International hunkered down on defense, securing the important conference victory.

Webber International is back in action, Saturday, October 31, when Webber International makes the short trip to Lakeland, Florida to take on Southeastern.
