Women’s Soccer Falls Late to Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Webber International University women's soccer battled it out with Ave Maria, Wednesday. In an offensive battle, the Warriors fired off an astounding 45 shots, but eventually fell to the Gyrenes, 4-3.

Ave Maria jumped out to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes. The Warriors got on the board in the 40th minute, thanks to senior Cierra Abundez's 16th goal of the season. A few minutes later, Ave Maria netted another goal, sending Webber International into half time down, 3-1.

The second half saw Webber International push the tempo offensively, taking 19 shots. The Warriors scored their second goal seconds into the second half, after Janel Ebanks made a great move at the top of the box and fired home the goal.

Webber International found an equalizer in 66th minute, after Jenna Murphy beat the Gyrene keeper one-on-one. The Warriors continued to push the tempo and were unlucky to not net a game-winner.

In the 86th minute, Ave Maria was able to regain the lead, eventually winning the match, 4-3.

The Warriors are back in action, Saturday, October 24 when Webber International hosts Southeastern.
