Warriors Sweep Royals in Season Opener Double-Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lake Wales, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors baseball team traveled across Crooked Lake to take on their rivals Warner University Royals in their season opener double-header. The Warriors sweep the Royals, 12-4 in game one and 6-2 in game two.
 
Game 1
The Warriors started off fast in their first game of the season by scoring two runs in their first at bat. In the top of the second inning the Warriors extended their lead over the Royals scoring two more runs. The Warriors defense slipped up in the bottom of the third inning allowing the Royals to score three runs. Webber responded in the top of the fourth scoring four runs, 8-3. In the bottom of the fourth the Royals scored another run. In the top of the fifth inning Webber scored two more runs. The Warriors scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning winning the game 12-4 over the Royals.
 
Leading the Warriors on the field were; AJ Arroyo going two for five at the plate scoring three runs and one RBIs; Jesus Villalobos went two for five at the plate scoring two runs with two RBIs.
 
Sean Stanislawski collected the win for the Warriors pitching staff throwing in 3.2 innings. Sean gave up four hits and four runs with five strikeouts.
 
Game 2
The Warriors picked up where they left off in the first game scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Both teams struggled to get anything going on offense for the next three innings. The Royals scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Warriors scored one run in the top of the sixth inning, 3-1. In the top of the seventh inning, Webber extended their lead by three runs, 6-1. Warner scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning but the Warriors won the game 6-2.
 
Leading the Warriors on the field were: Kevin Cicali with two hits on four at bats scoring one run; AJ Arroyo with one hit on two at bats scoring two runs with two RBIs; Jacob Lopez going one for three at the plate and scored one run.
 
Gustavo Martinez collected the win for the Warriors pitching staff. Martinez threw for six innings giving up one run and five hits.
 
The Warriors record improves to 2-0 overall and will return to action on Wednesday, February 4th as they host Eckerd College starting at 6 p.m.
