BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors basketball team took on conference opponent, #24 Southeastern University Fire this evening at 5:30 p.m. The Fire took the win, 92-84.
Both teams were tied in The Sun Conference, 4-2.
With 9:06 left in the game, Nate Morrell made both free throws and tied the game, 28-28. At 7:56 the tie broke with Warriors on top after another good free-throw by Morrell. The Warriors would stay on top until 6:17 left to play, tying again, 31-31. Both teams went back and forth until the Fire broke into the lead at 4:42. The Warriors struggled to catch back up and went 40-50 into the half.
Brian Pace made the first basket at the start of the second half. However, the Warriors managed to maintain a rather steady 10-point lag behind the Fire. The Warriors began to close the gap with less than 5 minutes left to play, but ran out of time, falling short of the victory.
Leading the Warriors on the court were: Nate Morrell with 12 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds;
Brian Pace with 20 points, 2 assists, and 6 rebounds; and
Dewaine Lyals with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
The Warriors' record falls to 7-12 overall and 4-3 in The Sun Conference, while the Fire's record improves to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in The Sun Conference.
Webber will return to action on Thursday, against St. Thomas University Bobcats at 7 p.m. in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
