MIAMI, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors baseball team traveled to Miami to face off against Northwood University. The Warriors came back with their first conference series win, 2-1.
The Warriors won the first game of the conference double-header with a score of 10-7. Webber scored the first run of the game in the top of the first only to see the Seahawks tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Then in the top of the third inning the Warriors scored four runs. Northwood scored one in the bottom of the third. Webber extended their lead in the top of the fourth scoring two more runs and the Seahawks scored one run in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth and sixth inning the Warriors scored one run in each inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning Northwood scored one run. The Warriors scored their last run in the top of the eighth inning. The Seahawks tried to rally in the bottom of the eighth and ninth inning as they scored three runs in the two innings. The Warriors won the game with a final score of 10-7.
Leading the Warriors on the field were:
Dylan Price going three for five at the plate and had three runs and RBI's;
Shae Cothran going three for five at the plate with one run and two RBI's; and
Chris Suto going two for five at the plate scoring two runs.
Chris Garcia collected the win for the Warriors' pitching staff.
In game two, Northwood University won the game with a final score of 9-3 over the Warriors. The Seahawks started off with the first run on the board in the bottom of the second. The Warriors responded in the top of the third tying the game and took the lead in the top of the fourth scoring their last two runs. Northwood responded in the bottom of the third retaking the lead scoring three runs. The Seahawks extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings winning the game 9-3.
Leading the Warriors in game two were:
Chris Suto going one for four at the plate with one run and
Chad Buckley going one for three at the plate scoring one run and one RBI.
The Warriors record moves to 21-22 overall and 7-11 in The Sun Conference.
The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday, April 2
nd as they travel to Eckerd College starting at 6:00 p.m.
