Warriors Fall to Night Hawks 84-74

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors hosted conference opponent Thomas University Night Hawks in the Sabbagh Athletic Center starting at 4:00 p.m. The Warriors lead most of the game but came up short in the end losing 84-74.
 
Before the game the seniors were honored for their years at WIU:
Kirk Funnell
Kirk escorted by his parents, Scott and Michelle Funnell. Kirk came to WIU as a freshman in 2010 and has spent his entire college career as a Warrior. He was named most improved player on the JV team for both his freshman and sophomore seasons. Kirk will graduate this spring with a degree in Sport Management. He is looking forward to spending some time fishing this summer. Ladies and Gentlemen, Number 31, Kirk Funnell.
 
Charles Murphy
Charles escorted by his parents, Charles and Nickeya Murphy. Charles transferred from Florida College to WIU as a junior in 2012. He started out on the JV team, but by the end of his first season he had earned a spot on the varsity team with his athleticism and high energy. Charles will graduate this spring with a degree in General Business. After graduation, Charles plans on attending graduate school at The University of South Florida. Ladies and Gentlemen, Number 22, Charles Murphy.
 
Deandre Simpson
Deandre escorted by Coach Shoffner's wife, Yadira Shoffner. Deandre transferred to WIU as a junior in 2012. Deandre's athleticism and rebounding ability have made him a huge asset to the basketball program. Deandre will need one class this summer to graduate with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. After graduating, he plans on moving back home to the Cayman Islands to work for the Department of Tourism. Ladies and Gentlemen, Number 00, Deandre Simpson.
 
David Wynn
David escorted by his parents, David Sr. and Nedra Wynn, and his grandmother Flerida Gonzalez. David transferred from Florida College to WIU as a junior in 2011. He has used his size and strength throughout his career to be a dominant post presence for the Warriors. David will need four classes next fall to graduate with a degree in General Business. After graduating, David plans on joining the Air Force. Ladies and Gentlemen, Number 34, David Wynn.
 
Kevin Templeton
Kevin escorted by his girlfriend, Bianca Williams, their son, Kevin Jr., his mother, Rita Templeton, and his grandparents, Robert and Loretta Fulco. Kevin transferred from Millsaps College to WIU as a Freshman in 2010. After a series of injuries sidelined Kevin during his first season, he began working as a member of the coaching staff. During his Sophomore year, he was an assistant coach for the JV until becoming the head coach after a late season coaching change. The past 2 seasons, he has done a great job as a head JV coach. Kevin graduated this past fall with a degree in Sport Management. Kevin is in the process of deciding on his next college basketball coaching opportunity. The Warriors would take the court and found themselves down by two at the half 42-40. In the second half the Warriors controlled the game and the lead until the end when the Night Hawks ran past winning 84-74.
 
Leading the Warriors on the court were: #3 Giovanni Poitier with 19 points, three blocks, and three rebounds; #1 Raymond Durant, #4 Nate Morrell, and #31 Maynard Rowe all scored 11 points for the Warriors.
 
The Warriors record falls to 9-20 overall and 5-13 in The Sun Conference.
 
The Warriors will return to action on Thursday, February 27th as they host the play in game for The Sun Conference Tournament starting at 7:00 p.m.
