BABSON PARK, Fla – The Webber International Warriors baseball team split a doubleheader against conference opponent Thomas University.
In the first game the Warriors lost the lead in an eighth inning rally giving up four allowing Thomas to take a 9 – 6 lead.
Rob Lane started the first game for the Warriors, pitching 6 innings to and recording 5 strikeouts.
The Warriors had 11 hits in the matchup being led by shortstop Tim Hoelzer going 2 for 3 at the plate and scoring 2 runs. Senior leftfielder Chris Suto scored 2 runs also, as well as homering for the Warriors.
In the second matchup the Warriors jumped out to an early lead scoring four in the first and two in the second to win the game 7 – 3.
Taking the mound for the Warriors was senior right hander Alex Greener who only allowed 2 runs in his five innings pitched while recording seven strikeouts.
Leading the Warriors in batting was senior third baseman Trip Merrell who batted 2 for 3 and leading the Warriors with 4 RBIs. Senior Chris Suto had another great game batting 2 for 3 and scoring 3 of the Warrior's runs.
This win gives the Warriors the win in the series against Thomas giving them a 6-6 record and a 4-2 record in conference play. The Warriors next take the field against Clearwater Christian College on Tuesday February 19 at 7:00pm.
