LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors men's and women's basketball teams traveled to Warner University to take on the Royals in a very important conference match up for both teams. The women kicked off the night at 5:30 p.m. and the men finished the night with their 7:30 p.m. start. The Lady Royals would squeak by the Lady Warriors with a 53-52 final. Then the Warriors would take the court and would fall to the Royals 86-80.
The Lady Warriors kicked off the festivities of the Webber vs Warner rivalry basketball games. After a hard fought first half the Lady Warriors took a one point lead into half time, 25-24. The Lady Warriors would come out fighting hard in the second half and would lose the lead with 2:13 left to play, 53-52. Both teams would not be able to find the bottom of the net for the rest of the game which gave the Lady Royals the win over the Lady Warriors.
Leading the Lady Warriors on the court were: #24
Yesenia Lora with her first double-double of the year with 21 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and one block; #3
Alishia Kahan with nine points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
The Lady Warriors record falls to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in The Sun Conference.
The Lady Warriors will return to action on Friday, December 27, as they host Emmanuel College in the Sabbagh Athletic Center starting at 5 p.m.
After the conclusion of the women's game the men took the court looking to bounce back from their loss to the #1 team in the nation, Embry Riddle. The Warriors would struggle to get things going in the first half and would go into the half trailing the Royals by 25 points, 48-23. The Warriors would come back from the half on fire and would outscore the Royals by 19 points, 57-38. Their second half effort would be too little too late as the Royals won the game 86-80.
Leading the Warriors on the court were: #4 Nate Morrell with 22 points, four assists, four rebounds, and a steal; #1
Raymond Durant scored 14 points and had one assist; #3
Giovanni Poitier had 12 points, four rebounds, and a steal; #10
Carlos Holcey had 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
The Warriors record falls to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in The Sun Conference.
The Warriors will return to action on Thursday, December 12, as they host Florida National University starting at 7 p.m. in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
