Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla. - The baseball series between the Royals and the Warriors continued on Saturday at Royals field. Webber humbled Warner to the tune of 12-3 in yesterday's series opener. With the loss the Royals sit at 4-8 in conference play, while the Warriors improved to 7-5.
Game One
The top of the sixth inning was where Webber finally broke through, as a runner scored from a passed ball to make it 1-0 Warriors.
John McVey brought the Royals right back into things with a towering two run shot over the left field wall to give Warner a 2-1 lead. Webber would even things up in the top of the seventh after a close play at the plate to make it 2-2.
A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third and a base hit scored the runner on third to make it 3-2 with no outs in the inning. Webber wound up tacking on three runs in the inning to take a commanding 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.
Things would get interesting in the bottom of the ninth as with two outs Justin Neckles singled to center. Ethan Lovell laid down a bunt that advanced Neckles all the way home due to an errant throw by the third baseman while Lovell advanced to third. Now only down 5-4, the Royals were in a position to tie things up only to see their chances squandered by a fly-out to end the game.
Shane McIntyre, the second baseman, led the Warriors with a hit, a run, and two RBIs, and
Josh Longbrake, the left fielder, with two hits and a run. Jesse Wiggington pitched in seven innings where he faced 28 batters, allowed 6 hits, 2 runs, and had 5 players strikeout.
Game Two
The Warriors took a quick 1-0 lead in the opening inning. Warner threatened by getting their first two batters on base in the first inning. They were not able to capitalize, as the next three hitters all popped up to end the threat.
Warner took control in the second inning and put their foot on the paddle and scored 7 unanswered runs, until the eighth inning where the Warriors broke their drought by scoring once, but it was not enough to give a scare to the Royals. Warriors fell 2-10 in the final game of the series, and split the doubleheader with Royals.
Leading the way for Webber was
Hunter Ovens with a hit, a run, and an RBI and
Justin Sanders who came in for Cody Barns also had a run of his own. Warriors went through five different pitchers in the loss to Warner.
Webber will be back in action on Friday, March, 30, 2012, at 7 pm where they will host Saint Thomas University in a conference match, and they will continue their series on Saturday, March, 31, 2012, where the first pitch will be at noon to start the doubleheader.
