Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – David Marlar rallied his team versus Florida Memorial University on February 9, 2012 to a 66-62 victory. He was back in action tonight after missing few games due to injury.
Warriors came out slow and let the Lions take a 4 point lead at the 18:39 minute mark, but turned on the pressure in the middle of the first half to take a 12 point commanding lead at the 8:56 minute mark.
Jakeem Hill led the Warriors in the first half with 7 points, 8 rebounds, an assist, a steal and 3 huge blocks.
David Marlar and
Gabriel Rutledge each had 6 points in the first half.
Matthew Rolle came off the bench for Florida Memorial to lead his team in total points with 9, he also snatched 3 rebounds.
Warriors had 14 points in the paint, 5 points off turnovers, 4 fast break points, and the bench came up with 7 points. Lions had 12 points in the paint, 8 points off turnovers, 1 second chance point, 2 fast break points, and 19 huge points by their bench.
Webber International cooled down at the end of first half and allowed Florida Memorial to get within 3 points at the half. Warriors went in with a 31-28 advantage into the half.
Warriors came out hot in the second half, as
Gabriel Rutledge started the half by blocking one of the Lions, and
Jakeem Hill blocked another Lion in their second possession, making it difficult for Florida Memorial to catch up to the Webber. After two minutes of drought,
David Marlar made an easy layup in the paint to extend the Warriors lead to five.
Webber went on a 9-0 run to extend its lead by 12 after an easy fast-break layup by
Jay Philippe in the 14:10 minute mark. Florida Memorial was not going down easily; as they traded bucked with Webber from that minute mark to reduce their deficit by 5 points after Mark Rolle tipped-in his own missed jump shot with 14 seconds left in the game. A made free throw by
Jay Philippe with 10 seconds left in the game extended the lead by six, 66-60. George Gray, from Florida Memorial, made the final shot in the paint with 3 seconds left to reduce the deficit to 62-66.
Jakeem Hill finished the night with a double-double with 13 points and 133 rebounds; he also had 3 assists, a steal, and 5 rebounds.
Tyler Auerbacher and
David Marlar each had 16 points in the victory over FMU.
Matthew Rolle was a leading scorer with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Webber International improves to 10-12 and 4-9 in The Sun Conference; whereas, Florida Memorial falls to 5-18 and 2-10 in The Sun Conference.
Webber International University will be on the road for the next two matched, where they will challenge St. Thomas on February 11, 2012 at 7 pm, then they will go back south to challenge Ave Maria University on the 13th of February. The final game will be on February 18, 2012 at home as WIU will host #22 Southeastern University at 7 pm, they will be honoring their seniors that night as well.
