Warriors Split Double-Header vs. Cougars

BABSON PARK, Fla. - Warriors split a doubleheader 3-5 and 7-6 versus Cougars on February 29, 2012.

Game 1

Game one of the doubleheader the Warriors sent Rob Lane to the mound looking for his third win on the year. The game quickly turned into a pitcher's duel as the game was scoreless through 3. The Warriors scored 2 in the 4th and 1 more in the 6th. Lane ended his day after tossing 7.0 inns only giving up 3 runs. Lane gave up 2 runs in the top of the 7th, as the Cougars tied the game to force  extra. Brant Lickiss took the mount in the 8th for the Warriors. As the Cougars pushed 2 across in the after a leadoff single followed by a hit batter and a sacrifice bunt. Which set up 2nd and 3rd where Simek picked up a 2 run double. Which helped the Cougars defeat the Warriors 5-3  (8 inns).

Offensively the Warriors hurt themselves on the bases as they were picked off three times which was costly. At the plate the Warriors were led by Billy Farrell who picked up 3 hits and 3 RBI's. Derek Self and Josh Longbrake both contributed with 2 hits each.

Game 2

Game two, the Warriors sent Kyle Russo to the mound. Russo's day did not last long as he only threw 1.2 inns. Russo struggled to get out of the 2nd where he gave up 6 runs on 1 hit, walked 4, and hit a batter. The Warriors responded right back with 3 runs on a RBI double by John Williamson followed by  a 2 run single by Travis Noland.  The Warriors offence chipped away by scoring a run in the 3rd and 4th innings before taking the lead in the 5th where the Warriors scored 2. The Warriors Bullpen came in and shut the Cougars down. Steven Arvanitis tossed 3.1 innings while picking up his first win on the year and Jessie Wiggington delivered 2.0 innings not allowing a hit while picking up his second save on the year.

The Warriors were led offensively by Travis Noland who picked up 3 hits and 3 RBI's.  Billy Farrell and John Williamson also combined for 3 hits and 2 RBI's.

The Warriors are back in action tomorrow in a doubleheader vs. Davenport University starting at 4:00pm.
