BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University's baseball team faced off against conference opponent Ave Maria on Friday, February 24, at the Heart of Florida Field located on the campus of WIU.
Before the game Kyle Mueller threw out the ceremonial first pitch at 6:00 p.m. and was followed by a special presentation from the Athletic Director
Bill Heath. Heath presented Head Baseball Coach
Brad Niethammer an award for getting his 500
th win as the Head Baseball Coach for Webber International University.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the 6
th inning when
Shane McIntyre singled into left filed. McIntyre would then steal second base with
Hunter Ovens at the plate. Ovens would ground out to second base advancing McIntyre to third.
Billy Farrell would have an RBI even though he grounded out to short stop. McIntyre would be the only run scored for the Warriors in the inning. In the bottom of the 7
th inning the Warriors would score the final run of the game on an RBI from
Derek Self's single into left field which scored
Taylor Mathis. The Warriors would hold Ave Maria for a 2-0 victory.
The Warriors record improves to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in The Sun Conference and Ave Maria's record falls to 6-11 overall and 3-4 in The Sun Conference.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, February 25, as they take on Ave Maria in a double header starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Heart of Florida Field located on the WIU campus.
