Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Christian College upset Lady Warriors 82-84 on January 31, 2012.
NAIA Webber University opened the game with intense defensive pressure to break quickly ahead 15-3. The Cougars persevered and as the team played solid defense they began to answer back, Webber's lead would not be over taken until the Cougars tied the score with 3 minutes left in the half. At that point the Cougars had the momentum and took advantage to lead at the half 40-34.
During the second half, although the score fluctuated between a six to ten point lead, the Cougars continued to hold the lead until the final minute when Webber brought the score to within 3. Webber's defensive pressure finally paid off as Webber tied the game with 15 seconds left on the clock. In the final seconds of the game, scoring leader Tori Hale drove to the basket, and although her attempt did not fall, Tina Bechtel got the rebound and put back with 4.5 seconds left on the clock to give the Cougars an 86 – 84 victory.
Webber falls to 2-20 in the season, as Clearwater Christian improves to 6-9 in their overall record.
Warriors will host Southeaster University in a conference match on February 3, 2012 in the Sabbagh Athletic Center and the tip-off will be at 7 pm.
