Warriors Overtook Wildcats

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Warriors overtook Wildcats 73-51 on Saturday January 28, 2012 in the Sabbagh Athletic Center and rose two spots in the conference standings.

Warriors came out shooting hot in the first ten minutes into the game, where they shot over .500 from the field, and Johnson and Wales shot over .300. In the first half, Warriors shot 12-37 (32.4%) from the field, and the Wildcats shot 9-41 (22%). WIU had 20 points in the paint, 5 points off turnovers, 3 second chance points, 12 fast break points, and the bench came up with 7 points. JWU made 10 points in the paint, 2 points off turnovers, 11 second chance points, and their bench came up with only one made free throw.

David Marlar led the Warriors with 10 points, 5 rebounds, assist, and a block, and Jakeem Hill had 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 huge blocks in the first half alone. Mules Smith led the Wildcats with 11 points and 2 rebounds.

The Warriors took the lead early, and they never relinquished it in the first half. Warriors went in with a 30-24 lead into the half.

Wildcats fought with the Warriors in the first four minutes and reduced their deficit to 37-32 after a made jumper by Barry Ingram in the 16:52 minute mark. After a layup by Jakeem Hill in the 15:55 minute mark, the Warriors went on 8-2 run in 2 minutes.

Webber led the entire game, and never allowed Johnson and Wales to even tie the match. Warriors largest lead came in the second half at the 3:02 minute mark after Kevin Kobold stole the ball to assist Jakeem Hill in the fast break layup. Jonathan Lowe from JWU made the next points in the game two minutes later, and David Swan finished the game with the final layup with 0:34 seconds to go.

Jakeem Hill led the Warriors to a victory with a double-double, 15 points and 11 rebounds, and his strong presence intimidated the Wildcats to drive the ball in the paint, for he would swat the ball, Jakeem Hill finished the night with 5 blocks. Gabriel Rutledge had a huge presence in the post where he had 11 rebounds, 7 points, and 5 blocks.

Carlos Montilla gave some trouble for the Warriors with his double-double, 28 points and 18 rebounds, but it was not enough for him alone to defeat the Warriors.

Warriors ended the night with 46 points in the paint; 15 points off turnovers, 3 second chance points, 24 fast break points, and the bench had a strong night with 28 points. Wildcats had 20 points in the paint, 9 points off turnovers, 12 second chance points, 4 points by the bench, and no fast break points. WIU shot 28-62 (45.2%) in the whole game' whereas, JWU shot 20-77 (26%).

Webber International improves to 9-8 and 3-5 in The Sun Conference, and Johnson and Wales Falls to 7-10 and 1-7in The Sun Conference.

Warriors will travel to Embry Riddle on January 30, 2012 and the tip-off will be at 7 pm, and they will host Crooked Lake Rival and a conference opponentl, Warner University, on Thursday February 2, 2012 in the Sabbagh Athletic Center and the tip-off will be at 7 pm.
