Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Warriors strong defense in overtime took down Ave Maria University 81-76 on January 19, 2012 at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The warriors came out shooting well from the field in the first half making 13-32 (40.6%), and Gyrenes were not far behind with their own 13-33 (39.4%). The two teams were equally matched in the first half. Webber International and Ave Maria had half of their points in the paint, each team had 5 second chance points, and each team had 4 fast break points. However, AMU's bench outscored the Warriors bench 14 to 8. Warriors forced 6 turnovers and stole the ball 3 times; whereas, Gyrenes forced the Warriors to turn the ball over 7 times and they stole the ball thrice. Ave Maria had 10 points off turnovers, whereas, Webber had 5 points off turnovers.
Leading the way for the Warriors was
David Marlar with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block.
David Swan had 8 points to help the Warriors keep the lead going into the half.
Akii Dean came off the bench for Ave Maria to lead his team with 14 points in the first half.
Warriors led by as many as 7 points in the first half, but they went into the intermission with a 33-32 advantage.
The Warriors relinquished their lead early in the second half. Both teams exchanged buckets to keep the game interesting until the last minute. A free throw by
David Swan with 41 seconds to go tied the game at 66-66. Dylan Fugate made an impressive fade shot to take the lead for AMU with 17 seconds to go. The Warriors were not going to go down without a fight.
Troy Simmons took the ball and drove passed the Gyrenes defense to make a layup in traffic and the game, 68-68 with 6 seconds to go, which placed both teams in overtime.
Webber came out hot in the overtime shooting 5-7 (71.43%), and the Warriors defense cooled down the Gyrenes offense, as they shot 3-13 (23.08%).

Troy Simmons passed all the defenders as he made an easy layup to take 70-68 advantage.
Webber went on a 6 point run from 3 minutes to the last minute. Ave Maria tried to fight back as Akii Dean made a three point shot. However, the Marlar brothers made the next four points for the Warriors. The game was over when
David Swan made a free throw to take a 5 point advantage with less than 7 seconds in the match.
Webber International took down Ave Maria 81-76 to improve to an 8-7 overall record and 2-4 in The Sun Conference; and Ave Maria falls to 11-6, and 2-3 in the conference.

David Marlar led the team with 21 points,
David Swan had 15, and
Luke Marlar had 12.
Gabriel Rutledge continued to rebound well, as he always does, where he had 16 rebounds and 9 points.
Akii Dean led all teams with 22 points, but it was not enough to stop the Warriors tonight.
Webber International University will challenge Southeastern University on Saturday January 21, 2012 at the Fire's house in a conference match, and the tip-off will be at 7 pm. Warriors will be back in action at home on January 28, 2012 versus another conference opponent, Johnson and Wales University in the Sabbagh Athletic Center, and the tip-off will be at 7 pm.
