Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Warner University men's basketball team welcomed cross-town rivals Webber International University to the Turner Athletic Center for a The Sun Conference match-up on Wednesday night. The No. 17 Royals were on a string of good results as of late winning their last four games, to bring them in at 11-4 (1-1 TSC). The Warriors were hovering close to .500 with a 6-5 mark, and sit in the basement at 0-2 in the conference.
With Polk Country bragging rights on the line, the Royals and Warriors squared off in what was sure to be a heated affair. With a packed house of Royal and Warrior fans, there was bound to be a hostile atmosphere for both sides. The Warriors would be the first to get on the board, but the Royals would quickly answer. This back-and-forth style would be much of the storyline throughout the first half, with both teams trading buckets. Freshman Deonte Moore hit a couple of threes to help the Royals keep pace. The Royals went 35-26 into the break.
Warner would come out cold in the second half allowing Webber to draw close at 39-37, but Campbell and the Royals' offense would start to pick it up. The Warriors did not go away however, and they eventually pulled even with 10:37 left to go in the game at 48-48. With some late free throws, the Royals would claim the win with a 66-57 final.
Warner University had 23 second chance points to mere 4 second chance points by the Warriors. Webber had 8 steals, and three blocks to 5 steals and 2 blocks by Warner.
Jakeem Hill came off the bench for the Warriors and had 18 points, 3 rebounds, a block and a steal.
David Marlar had 14 points of his own in a loss to Warner.
Malcolm Campbell led all scorers with 20 points, and recorded a double-double by grabbing 17 boards.
The win makes it five in a row for the No. 17 Royals, and they are now 12-4 (2-1 TSC). The Warriors fall to 6-6, and 0-3 in The Sun Conference.
The Warriors will host a conference foe, Embry Riddle (10-7; TSC 1-2), on Saturday January 14, 2012 in the Sabbagh Athletic Center, and the tip-off will be at 7 pm.
