Babson Park, Fla. – The Warriors will take on Shorter University this Saturday September 10, 2011 on the Legion Field in Lake Wales, Fla. and the kickoff will start at 1:30 p.m., the ticket office will be open at 12:15 p.m. and the gates will open at 12:30 p.m.
The Hawks are 2-1 all-time time against the Warriors, who are coming off a stunning 37-29 upset loss at UVA-Wise last Saturday. The Warriors dominated UVA-Wise statistically, but just came short with the points.
Webber had 278 rushing yards and 390 yards of total offence in their season opener versus UVA-Wise. The Cavs had 253 passing yards and 248 yards of total offense.
Offensively
Deonte Fielder led the Warriors when he rushed 20 for 169 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
Jamal Rodman led the Warriors in receptions with 6 for 50 yards.
Defensively the Warriors were led by
Damion Smith with 5 tackles, as
Matt Davidson and
Ricky Carlson added with 4 tackles a piece.
Shorter broke a 1-1 deadlock in its series with Webber International with a 42-14 rout of the then 22nd-ranked Warriors at Barron Stadium last season, a game in which Shorter set school records with 534 rushing yards and 547 yards of total offense, and the Warriors had 192 passing yards and 232 yards of total offense.
Torrance Moise had 187 passing yards and an interception,
Jamal Rodman had majority of Moise's passes with 117 total yards with a longest catch of 41 yards. Shorter also had three players eclipse the 100-yard mark for the first time in program history.
The Hawks are 3-3 all-time in season openers. Shorter has not taken on an NAIA institution in a season opener since its inaugural season in 2005 when the Hawks were defeated on the field by Webber International 16-9 -- a game that was eventually awarded to Shorter via forfeit and stands as the first win in program history.
