Lakeland, Fla. – Lady Warriors relinquished their early lead to Lady Fire, and drop the season opener 2-3 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 26-28, 12-15).
The Lady Warriors took an early lead, grabbing game one 25-22 and racking up 16 kills in this set. The Lady Warriors continued dominating in game two, ending 25-20. They finished with 14 kills in this set and forced eight attack errors. Game three went to Southeastern with a score of 23-25.
In game four, Southeastern built up a lead 17-11 but Webber rallied and outscored Southeastern 11-5 to tie the score, 22-22. After a Kill from Lady Fire's Dell, Southeastern set up for the win, the score now being 24-25; however, game four did not finish on that play, an attack error by Southeastern brought the score to 26-25 in Warriors' favor. To wrap up game four, Southeastern forced the Lady Warriors into back-to-back errors, bringing the final score to 26-28 SEU.
In the final game, the Warriors started slow and allowed the Fire to take an early lead of 0-4. Nonetheless, the ladies rallied together and scored five straight points, bringing about the lead over Southeastern 5-4. However, the rest of the match would not turn out as well. Southeastern took advantage of some errors by the Lady Warriors and missing defenders to bring the score to 14-12 SEU. And to end game 5 and the overall match, Southeastern' s Coston made the game winning kill, making the final score 12-15, Southeastern.
Webbers' team leaders were Juliane Dougherty with 19 kills, two serve aces, 17 defensive digs, and one block solo.
Alida Schat lead the team in defensive digs with 19, one set, and one serving ace.
Katie Lindstrom lead the team in sets with 60, she also contributed to the team with 15 defensive digs, two serving aces, and an amazing block solo.
Taylor Eiken assisted the Warriors with 17 spectacular kills, two serving aces, one block assist, and 17 defensive digs.
Coston Catherine lead Southeastern University with 15 kills, 5 serving aces, and seven defensive digs. That was enough to take the game from the Lady Warriors.
Southeastern's overall record is now 3-3 and their conference record is 1-0. The Lady Warriors overall team record is 0-1, and their conference record is 0-1.
Webber International University will travel on September 9th to play their conference foe, Ave Maria University. The scheduled time is 7:00 p.m.
