Babson Park, Fla. – Webber International University (5-1) swept a conference leader SCAD Savannah (4-1) in three sets with a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, and 28-26) on September 17, 2011.
Lady Warriors came out with a purpose of defeating and taking the top spot in the conference versus SCAD Savannah.
Julianne Dougherty swung on the ball that
Katie Lindstrom set perfectly and took the first point with a passion. They continued to expand their lead over SCAD Savannah and not give them a chance to take the first game. Lauran Eschenroeder earned the first point for Lady Bees to close the gap in points, 8-4. It was not enough to intimidate the Warriors, as
Taylor Eiken, from Webber International University, spiked the ball into the opponent's court. The Warriors continued to expand their lead to a force SCAD Savannah to call two time outs. After the second timeout, Olympia Haney spike the ball into the Warriors side to give some life for the Bees, but
Taylor Eiken was not going to allow SCAD to take the first set, she smashed the ball through the opponent's double block to earn the point, the hard way. The rest of the point for Webber came from different types of errors from SCAD Savannah. Once the Warriors grab the lead, they never relinquished it in the first set, and did not allow SCAD to even tie the game. The final score of game one was Webber International 25, SCAD Savannah 12.
Julianne Dougherty and
Michelle Einzinger blocked a hard driven ball by SCAD to give a 2-0 lead for the Warriors. The Warriors continued to expand their lead, and forced SCAD Savannah to call two timeouts, again, in the second set. Olympia Haney smashed the ball through Webber's block to give SCAD the first point in what seemed to be the comeback that SCAD had last night versus Warner University. SCAD came within two points (17-15) and forced Webber International to call a timeout of its own to have the girls regroup. After the timeout, the Bees had two errors to give the momentum in the game back to Lady Warriors. After

Julianne Dougherty had three back-to-back-to-back kills from perfect assists by first year player,
Katie Lindstrom.
Katie Lindstrom finished the game for the Warrior's by dumping the ball into SCAD's court on a two ball. Warriors never trailed in the game, and SCAD never tied Webber in the second game either. The final score was Webber International 25, SCAD Savannah 18.
Julianne Dougherty took the first point, and made it look like Warriors were going to dominate the third set, but a kill by Lauran Eschenroeder, from Alex Shipley, through a double block from the Warriors changed the mind of many fans. The final game was very competitive. The Bees went on a four point stretch and give SCAD Savannah a 16-11 lead, and forced Webber International University to call a second time out to have the girls regroup.
Taylor Eiken, from Webber, spiked the ball through opponent's block back-to-back-to-back, then an attack error from SCAD Savannah forced Lady Bees coach to call its timeout to have their girls regroup. The Warriors were within a point at the end were ready to finish the match and take the victory, but strong serving from Jen Drouin gave the Bees huge a comeback and the lead, 25-24. Julianne Dougherty was not going to allow SCAD to take this game; therefore, she smashed the ball from
Katie Lindstrom through a double block from the Bees to tie the game and she did the same thing again to give the Warriors a 27-26 lead. The game ended on an attack error from the Bees to give the Warriors a win with a score of 28-26.
Tim Edfors, Head Volleyball Coach for Webber International University, stated: “We (Lady Warriors) rose up as a family, and defeated a very tough opponent (SCAD Savannah). I could not be any more proud of the girls.”
Team leaders for the Warriors were
Katie Lindstrom, Julienne Dougherty, and
Lauren Colton.
Katie Lindstrom led the team in assists with 30 and in digs with 11. Julienne Dougherty led the team with 15 kills; she also contributed with 10 digs and two block assists.
Lauren Colton led the team with three solid blocks.
Lauran Eschenroeder was a team leader for SCAD Savannah with 10 kills; she also assisted with two digs and two block assists.
Webber International had 39 kills, 39 assists, 4 serving aces, 51 digs, and seven intimidating blocks. While, SCAD Savannah had 29 kills, 29 assists, 4 aces, 46 digs, and 5 blocks.

Webber International University improves to a 5-1 overall record, and climbs up to a 4-0 record in The Sun Conference, while SCAD Savannah takes its first loss of the season, its overall record is 4-1, and drops to a 4-1 record in The Sun Conference.
Lady Warriors will host a conference foe Florida Memorial University on Friday September 23, 2011 at 7 pm in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
