LAKE WALES, FL. - The Warriors took the field on Saturday looking for a win after suffering a tough loss on the road to UVA-Wise, as they took on Shorter University at home. The Warriors fought hard throughout the game but it was not enough to defeat the Shorter University Hawks, losing, 42-10.
In the first half the Warriors passed for 161 yards and rushed for 13 yards on 15 plays. The Hawks forced one interception in the end zone and it was returned all the way for a touchdown. The first half of the game was all Hawks' as they scored 28 points to the Warriors' 3.
In the second half the Hawks did not give the Warriors any breathing room as they scored two more times putting them up, 42-3. The Warriors then started to rally as Chris Hart replaced
Torrance Moise as quarterback. The Warriors then scored their only touchdown of the game with 6:02 left in the third quarter. The rest of the game each team had a strong hold on defense keeping from additional points being scored, this would ultimately cause the Warriors to lose to the Hawks, 42-10.
Offensively the Warriors were led by Chris Hart in rushing and passing. Hart rushed 10 times for 59 yards averaging 5.9 yards a carry. He also completed 17 passes out of 30 and threw 2 interceptions while gaining 243 yards in the air. The leading receiver for the Warriors was
Roman Nelson who caught 5 passes for 97 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball the Warriors were led by #90
Jamael Autry with 6.5 tackles and one sack for the game. #25
Ricky Carlson also led the Warriors on defense with 5.5 tackles.
The Warriors record falls to 0-2 and the Hawks record improves to 1-0.
The Warriors will return to action on September 24, 2011 as they travel to Ashland, Oregon to take on Southern Oregon starting at 1:00 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time).
