BABSON PARK, Fla. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced its 2010-11 Scholar-Teams. Teams considered for the NAIA Scholar Team Award must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution; (The team GPA includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible). This year a record total of 934 were honored.
The following four teams at Webber International University were honored as NAIA Scholar Teams. Men's and Women's Golf, coached by
Nancy Nichols, Women's Cross-Country, coached by Dr. Peter Ormsby, and Men's Tennis, coached by Athletic Director,
Bill Heath, received the awards.
Stated WIU President, Dr. H. Keith Wade, “We are very proud of all of these student-athletes. Their GPA's would be impressive if all they did was go to class. Webber prepares students to be imminently employable and rapidly promotable, and you don't do that with a fluffy curriculum and cake classes. But they don't just go to class. They compete in their sports at a very high level. And many of them are active in other extracurricular and community activities as well. They're well rounded young men and women, and their ability to excel both in the classroom and on the field, greens, and courts is a testament to their energy, stamina, and dedication.”
“These teams are not only competitive in the classroom, but they are very competitive in their athletic competitions,” added A.D.,
Bill Heath. “Theses student-athletes will be highly successful in their chosen field after their careers at WIU have ended.”
