Babson Park, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors tennis team defeated the Seahawks, from Northwood University, 5-4 in a very close match on the WIU Campus Courts.

After doubles play the Warriors found themselves up 2-1. Winning #1 doubles 8-6 was the team of Thiago Marion and Andres Riobueno. The #3 team of Marcel Schmitt and Alwin Leysner won their match with a score of 8-3.

The Warriors went in to singles confident but also knowing that they would have to work hard with a 2-1 lead after doubles. The Seahawks fought the Warriors hard and the match came down to the 3^rd set of the #5 and #6 singles matches. Winners in singles for the Warriors were: #1 – Rafael Teixeira – 3-6, 6-1, 6-4; #4 – Juuso Tapaneinen – 7-5 , 6-4; #5 – Marcel Schmitt – 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Webber International Warriors are now 10-2 overall and Northwood fell to 2-2. The Warriors will be back in action Wednesday, March 9, as they host King's College (PA) on the WIU Campus Courts starting at 9:00 a.m. and then they will travel to Kissimmee to take on Olivet Nazarene (IL) starting at 6:30 p.m.
