Babson Park, Fla. – The WIU Warriors tennis team defeated Davenport University at home on the WIU Campus Courts, 8-1.
Davenport University fell behind the Warriors 3-0 after the completion of doubles play. Webber's #1 team of
Andres Riobueno and
Thiago Marion won, 8-6; the Warrior's #2 team of
Rafael Teixeira and Juuso Tapaneinen won 8-3 and the #3 team of
Marcel Schmitt and Joonas Jalkenen walked off with an 8-4 win.
In singles play the Warriors earned 5 wins in the 6 matches. Winners were #2
Andres Riobueno, 6-2, 6-2; #3
Thiago Marion, 6-1, 6-3; #4 Juuso Tapaneinen, 6-1, 6-1; #5
Marcel Schmitt, 6-0, 6-1; #6
Alwin Leysner, 6-0, 6-1.
The Warriors return to action as they host ABAC in an exhibition match on Wednesday, February 23, at 1:30 p.m. on the WIU Campus Courts. Spectators are welcome and admission is free. Webber's men's team, ranked 19th in the nation in NAIA, is now 6-2 for the year and 2-1 in The Sun Conference.
