DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Following the conclusion of regular season play on Saturday, the Sun Conference office announced the pairings and schedule for the 2011 volleyball conference tournament. The single elimination tournament will feature the top six schools in The Sun Conference. Seeding is based on the regular season finish with the top two seeds receiving a bye.
Embry-Riddle (25-4) earned the No. 1 seed by virtue of a perfect 12-0 conference season, while Webber International (20-9) the second seed with a 10-2 conference mark. Both squads will receive a bye into the semifinals. The Warriors finished in a tie with SCAD Savannah at 10-2, but WIU won the tiebreaker over the Bees and with it, the No. 2 seed.
SCAD Savannah (17-7) will be the No. 3 seed with a 10-2 record in conference play. Making its first conference tournament appearance is Ave Maria (12-18) who comes in as the No. 4 seed with a 6-6 conference record. Warner (11-14) also finished 6-6 in conference, but the Gyrenes won the tiebreaker over the Royals, so WU will be the No. 5 seed. The sixth seed will be Southeastern (12-18), making their second consecutive tournament appearance with a 5-7 conference record.
Tournament play, which will be held at St. Thomas University, begins on Friday (Nov. 11) morning with two quarterfinal matches. SCAD will play Southeastern at 10 a.m. followed by Ave Maria-Warner at 1 p.m. The semifinals will follow immediately afterward, with Webber International taking on the winner of the SCAD-SEU match at 4 p.m. The final match on Friday will feature Embry-Riddle against the winner of the AMU-WU match at 7 p.m.
The conference championship match will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. The two winners of Friday's semifinal matches will meet to decide who will win the automatic bid to the 2011 NAIA Volleyball National Championship.
