Lake Wales, Fla. - In the Warriors' final game of their regular season, cross-town rivals Warner emerged victorious to become the 2011 Crooked Lake Cup champions.

Kalum Horne gave Webber the lead in the 36th minute, as he shot past Warner's defense and slotted the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal from 16 yards out.

The Royals equalized through Carlo Coelho in the 64th minute, when his curling free-kick found the back of the net. Although Matthew Brust got two hands to the ball, it wasn't enough to keep it out.

Warner then took the lead in the 78th minute. John Teeter's long ball found Diego De la Fuente at the far post, who accurately headed it into the net.

Despite constant pressure from the Warriors during the last 12 minutes of the game, they couldn't find a way back.

Coach Cockburn said: “Although I don't want to make excuses, I am not entirely pleased with some of the decisions that have gone against us this season. I just hope we can win the cup back next season and keep it for good. Pushing that aside, I am very proud of the seniors and the leadership they showed this season.”

Words from Coach Cockburn on the Class of 2012:

Ade Ellis: “Ade is highly charismatic and extrovert – the perfect combination when it came to motivating the team ahead of big games. Despite his injuries, Ade had an impressive season and proved himself to be a solid right back.”

Ali Gökhan Yazar: “Ali really stepped up a gear this season, although it seems as if his two playing seasons have flown by. His fitness and work rate is incredible – two factors that will hopefully stimulate future Warriors.”

Christopher Bates: “Batesy has had a huge impact on the program since his arrival in '09.  Not only has he filmed all of our games and compiled numerous highlight videos, but his amusing presence helped increase the team's morale in rough situations. I wish him all the best for the future.”

Conor Dunne: “Conor has shown vast improvements since arriving in the fall of '09. His humor always lifted the team (and me) through tough times. He is the perfect example of what a student athlete should be – someone who maintains high grades and gives everything on the field, both in practice and on game day. This season he captained the JV team and also racked up two assists for varsity.”

Javier De La Cruz: “When Javier arrived at Webber he could barely speak a word of English, but how times have changed. He is an outstanding player who has scored some of the best goals during my time at Webber. Soccer or no soccer, I am sure he will go on to achieve great things.”

Julen Esteban: “Julen is a typical Spaniard – very passionate, competitive and hardworking, both on and off the field. This season he fought through a gruelling injury and came back much stronger as a result. I am also pleased that he finally scored his first ever goal as a Warrior.”
