Baseball Splits Doubleheader

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber baseball team played another doubleheader last night against Indiana Wesleyan and Walsh University. The Warriors won 3-2 in twelve innings against the Wildcats of Indian Wesleyan and lost 4-2 versus the Cavaliers of Walsh.
In game one Webber scored two runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. They gave up a run in the sixth to cut their lead in half and seemed to have everything under control until the Wildcats rallied and pushed the tying run across in the ninth before Webber could get three outs. Webber then squandered opportunity after opportunity in the extra frames until a leadoff double in the twelfth inning by Randy Hernandez. Hernandez was lifted for a pinch runner, Carlo Galluccio, who was sacrificed to third, something the Warriors failed to with runners on in the previous three innings. After the Wildcats shortstop made a great diving play up the middle to save a run, freshman Billy Farrell came up and hit a slow ground ball to second that he beat out at first and allowed Galluccio to score the winning run.
Game two saw the Warriors struggle at the plate and only able to score two runs and six hits. Webber struck in the first inning and tallied a run but the Cavaliers answered in the top of the second to take the lead with two runs of their own. Walsh pushed runs across in the fourth and sixth innings and took a 4-1 lead to the bottom of the seventh. Webber tried to rally but could only plate one and fell to the Cavaliers 4-2.
The Warriors are now 12-7 on the year and will host yet another doubleheader on Saturday March 6th as they take on William Penn at 12:30 pm and then Concordia at 3pm.
