Warrior Edge Royals in Crooked Lake Rivalry

Babson Park, Fla. – The Webber International University's men's basketball team defeated cross Lake Rival Warner University, Wednesday (December 1st), in their first The Sun Conference game of the season.

This was an intense game from the start where the Royals took a 5-0 lead, but the Warriors fought back and Junior Geidi's 3-point jumper to tie the game and one more 3-pointer to take the lead. Those two shots ignited the Warriors to take a take a lead, and they did not extinguish their lead in the first half.

The Royals fought back in the first half to tie Webber 24-24 with a good jumper by Allen Keen with 5:45 still remaining on the clock. That was not enough for they could not stop the free throw by the Warriors, which kept on giving WIU the lead one point at a time.

Before the first half ended, Junior Geidi made another 3-pointer to give them a 2 point lead 30-28 and momentum for the Warriors going into the second half. The half time score was Webber 32 Warner 30.

In the first half, Warner had 3 players with 6 points apiece, and their leader was Malcolm Campbell with 6 points and 5 rebounds. The leader for the Warriors was Junior Geidi with 11 points where he made 3 out of 5 3-point jumpers and he had a rebound to add to his defense aid to his team. The Warriors bench scored 11 points and the Royal bench score 5 points in the first half. Webber's bench was a big contributor to a 2 point lead at the half.

The start of the second half was very intense were both teams went blow for a blow. The Royals made the first two jumpers to give them a two point lead, but Geidi and Adams made the next to shot to take back the lead to 36-34.

A 3-point jumper by WU's Bryce Kachinski with 10:36 to go in the game gave the Royals a three point lead, 46-43. The Royals went on a 9-0 streak to give them a 52-43 lead. During the 9-0 lead, the Warriors had few uncalled for turnovers where the Royals turned the turnovers into points. The Warriors got a spark from Junior Geidi's 3-point jumper, and the comeback was inevitable.

The Warriors for the eleventh time with Gabrielle Rutledge's jumper at 58-58 with a little more than a minute left on the clock, and they took a lead with Brandon Thomas' two made critical free throws to give the game to Webber. Warner had a chance to tie the game with two free throws, but the pressure got to them and they made one of two free throws, and they had to foul Webber to get a chance to win or tie the game with a jumper, and Webber also made one of two free throws to give them a 61-59 lead. The Royals had a chance to win the game with a three pointer, but it was not their destiny to win the rival game on the 1st December of 2010.

Leading the Warriors on the court was senior Junior Geidi, scoring 21 points. Preston Adams had 9 points, and Gabrielle Rutledge, Tyler Auerbacher, and David Marlar all collecting 6 points apiece.

The Warriors defeat the Royals, 61-59. Webber improves their overall record to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in The Sun Conference. The Royals drop to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

The Warriors will take the road Saturday (December 4th), as they travel to West Palm Beach, and take on the Seahawks, of Northwood University in another conference game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
