Babson Park, Fla. - Following a 3-0 defeat at the University of Tampa, the Warriors returned to Conference action on Friday afternoon, facing off against the Seahawks of Northwood University.
It didn't take long for Northwood to break the deadlock, when Joe Hughes played a through ball for Marcus Johansson, who slotted it home to put the visitors ahead after just eight minutes.
While both teams continued to battle throughout the first half, Northwood went into the break with their one goal advantage still in place.
After Coach Cockburn's inspirational half time team talk, the Warriors turned up the volume in the early stages of the second half. Andy Scott played a perfect long ball through to Niclas Kristensen within five minutes of the second half. Kristensen was under a great deal of pressure while trying to knock the ball past Andy Robertson, who did a great job of denying the Dane.
Although the Warriors continued to control the tempo of the second half, Northwood almost scored their second. A cross sailed in from Anders Sulisalo which was met at the back post by Wes Hunt. Hunt managed to get a header on goal but Brandon Stout proved crucial, showing his great reflexes to push the ball out for a corner.
The Warriors finally got a reward for all their hard work. A long ball from Christian Hall found the feet of Estevan Lamas, who had his initial shot blocked. Lamas then found Ali Gokhan who skilfully back heeled the ball into the path of Miguel Otero, allowing him to bury the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal, leaving Robertson with no chance.
It looked as if Webber were pushing on for the victory, but events changed within the blink of an eye. Hughes and Johansson hooked up again, with Hughes laying the ball back for first half goal scorer, who calmly tucked it past Stout to put the Seahawks back ahead with six minutes remaining. Four minutes later the game was sealed from Johansson's hat-trick, this time with an assist from Alvaro Romo. After Romo's ball over the top of the Warrior's defense, Johansson carefully dribbled the ball around the approaching Stout and placed the ball into the back of the net.
Coach Cockburn said, “It was a shame to lose 3-1, especially having conceded two goals in the last six minutes of the game. I didn't agree with some of the decisions that the officials made, but that's just the way the game goes. We have to look forward now starting with Johnson & Wales on Sunday.”
