Babson Park, Fla. -- The Webber baseball team opened up their 2010 campaign by throwing a combined no hitter in their first game, winning 1-0 versus cross lake rival Warner University. Josh Davis, Chris Kirk, and Will Arnold combined for the Warriors first no hitter to be thrown on opening day.
Davis started and threw the first three innings before turning it over to Kirk, who tossed the next two innings. Arnold then came on to finish the game putting up perfect numbers in his two innings while picking up the save.
Offensively, Webber was led by Darin Jones who tallied two hits and Tito Carrillo who picked up a hit and drove in Shawn Mayhew for the only run of the game. Mayhew was one-for-one and the run scored on the day. Randy Hernandez also had a hit in the contest.
Game two was a totally different story for the Warrior pitchers as the Royals racked up fourteen hits and scored eight runs. Webber tried rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as they pushed six runs across with two outs before Warner finally picked up a strikeout to end the game.
Dominic Murray started on the hill for Webber surrendering only one hit and no runs during his two innings of work. Jesse Wiggington took the bump after that allowing two runs on four hits and picked up the loss. Jason Benkert then tossed and inning and a third giving up six runs on seven hits and struck out one before giving over to Ryan Gibbard who finished the game throwing an inning and two thirds and only allowing two hits.
The Warriors waited until the seventh innings to score the majority of their runs as they tallied six with two outs in the seventh. Leading the way was Ryan Regidor who picked up two hits; a run scored, and drove in a run.
Webber will take the field again on Wednesday as they take on Eckerd College at home with the first pitch scheduled for 6 pm.
