Prior to joining Webber, Counts spent last season as an assistant coach at the University of Montevallo. In his lone season there, he helped guide the team to a 20-11 record, their most wins since 2014-2015, and their first NCAA tournament birth since 2016.
Before Montevallo, Counts served as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee Southern from 2022-2024. In his two years, the program won 44 games including two wins against Division 1 opponents in back to back years. He coached six all-conference players. In the 2023-2024 season, the Firehawks went 27-6 which included a 19 game win the streak, a program record. The season was capped off with a 2024 Southern States Regular Season Championship, the school's first since 2015, and a bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
Prior to the University of Tennessee Southern, he spent two years as a graduate assistant at Purdue Fort Wayne University. During his time there, he helped scout opponents, coordinated video, led individual skill development workouts, and helped the program win a 2022 Horizon League Regular season championship.
Counts spent his undergrad working as a student assistant for the University of Alabama men's basketball team for four years. He spent three years under Avery Johnson and one year under current Alabama head coach, Nate Oats. His responsibilities included: scouting of opponents, helping with practice drills, and several off-court duties.
He received a bachelors degree in Finance from the University of Alabama and a Masters degree in Organizational Leadership from Purdue Fort Wayne.
