Michael Mangan joined Webber International University in the Fall of 2021 as its new Head Men's and Women's Cross County Coach, taking over for James Simpson. Mangan added the responsibilities of Head Track & Field Coach in July of 2022.

Mangan came to Webber from Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia, where he has worked since the year 2000 as the Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach and Director of Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.

In 2017, Mangan was named the NSAF National Coach of the Year, and in 2014, he was the Virginia State Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year. In 2016, his team won the Penn Relays Distance Medley Girls Championship. In 2017, they won the New Balance National Distance Medley Championship after setting the National High School Indoor Distance Medley National Record.

Mangan coached Kate Murphy (rising junior in high school) to the 1500 meter semifinals at the US Olympic Trials in 2016.

Before his time at Braddock, Mangan coached from 1987-2000 at Langley High School in McLean, Virginia, where he was the Head Boys and Girls Cross Country and Head Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach from 1996-2000. From 1987-1996, he was the Assistant Girls Cross Country and Assistant Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach at Langley. During that time frame, he was also the Head Girls Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach at St. Stephen’s St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia, from 1993-1996.

Overall for his coaching career, Mangan has been named Washington Post All-Met Coach of the Year four times, has won 11 Virginia Large Schools State Cross Country Team Championships between both girls and boys, and has had two Nike Nationals Girls’ Team Qualifiers, four Nike National Individual Qualifiers and five Footlocker National Qualifiers. He will be a 2022 Lake Braddock Hall of Fame Inductee.

Mangan has also been the Director of Chantilly Youth Track and Field since 2008, which is a club program for 300-plus athletes from age 4-14, and has been the Owner of Main Event Sportswear, LLC since 2005. He has also been a Senior Camp Counselor at Camp Varsity, Virginia's premier cross country camp.

Mangan has been the Vice President of the Northern Virginia Coaches Association since 2003, and has been a member since 1987. In 1998, he earned his USATF Level 1 Certification.

Mangan earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from George Mason University in 1993 after getting his Associate of Arts degree from Northern Virginia Community College in 1991-92.

Coach Mangan is married to Rebecca Mangan, they have two children: Abigail, who plays college field hockey, and Joseph, a middle school baseball player.
