Carl is entering his 11th year as an Assistant Coach for women's basketball at Webber International University in 2021-22. Carl is originally from Bartow, Florida, and played football and attended Southern University. During his tenure at Webber, Carl has previously been in charge of the summer development program and coaching the JV women's basketball program. Carl has also previously been the team's academic dean and advisor.

Coach Burgess has been coaching for over 20 years at several levels and was a driving force in his son’s development in becoming a NCAA Division-I point Guard at Appalachian State University. Coach Burgess has been married for almost 25 years to Sonya Burgess.
Carl also has worked for Polk County Fire and Rescue for the past 25-plus years.
