    Head Strength & Conditioning Coach/Assistant Weightlifting Coach

Nate Portrey joined Webber in February 2025 after working as a Strength Coach at Embry-Riddle. While at Embry-Riddle, He served under the Associate AD for Health and Sports Performance and 4 Time Hall of Fame inductee. He help cultivate a holistic performance culture and one of the strongest Track & Field programs in NCAA Division II (20 All Region, 5 National Qualifiers, 3 All Americans) in a weight room with 9 racks (110 kids in program). He also served Men’s Lacrosse under John Jez (2x National Champion, 2x National Coach of the Year) as their strength coach, where he oversaw big metric jumps ( some athletes adding over 12” to their broad jump , an average team (52 guys) improvement of 3” to vertical leap with some athletes adding 5-6”, the team average bench press improved by 26lbs and deadlift improved by 113lbs. ALL of these improvements occurred in as little as 14 WEEKS, implemented a true record, rank, publish system to capitalize on benefits of the holistic culture instilled.

Prior to Embry-Riddle, Portrey served as an intern in Spring 2022 under Pete Franco and Ben Steenrod at Temple University where he developed intangibles necessary to coach at a NCAA Division I level. He assisted with all Olympic Sports. He also served as head intern in 2022 Fall under Master Strength coach Brian Bingaman at Eastern University - everyone on that staff is now in a directors position. Cultivated one of the best sports performance staff in NCAA Division III (Strength Coach U). He assisted in training new interns, oversaw social media and all things cross country, while also assisting with all other sports.

Portrey served as a Graduate Assistant at Temple University in Spring 2023 under Kristen Cole and Ben Steenrod (arguably best Wlax strength coach in country - 7 team USA Wlax athletes, trained multiple NBA players) He helped to implement programming for teams and assisted with W Soccer, Wlax, M/W Rowing, T&F, WBB. In the Summer of 2023 served as an assistant coach at Atlas Peak Performance (Cole Hamels World Series MVP 2008 trains there) under Alex Diggory and Mitch Clemons (notable baseball performance mind in Greater Philadelphia Area) Trained various aged groups and served high schools in the Inter AC (most competitive HS Philly Private school league).

Prior to his work as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Portrey played Lacrosse under Kevin Wallace and earned his bachelors in Kinesiology at Eastern University from Dr. Tracey Greenwood (IFBB PRO) one of best in country in the exercise science field. He was also a competitive powerlifter in college with a 2-0 record

Portrey is the son of Father Douglas Portrey and Mother Jenny Portrey. Douglas is an engineer and sub-contractor for the Department of Defense, as well as graduate of the West Point Military academy, where he was a National Champion on the parachute team, and former Airborne Army Ranger. His mother Jenny is a Philadelphia native, former Nurse, and served the Lampeter Strasburg School District.
