David Andrews enters his 12th season at Webber International University in the spring of 2022. Coach Andrews previously served for six years as the Warriors' head track & field coach before stepping back into a role as an assistant coach in August 2020.
Including his time both as head coach and as an assistant coach for the Warriors, Andrews coached 18 combined All-Americans between both indoor and outdoor track & field.
In all, the Warriors earned seven top-three finishes on the women's side and five top-three finishes on the men's side at The Sun Conference Championships during Andrews' tenure as both an assistant coach and as the head coach of Webber track & field. Additionally, the Webber women's team finished as the TSC runners-up four times under Andrews' tutelage while the men finished in second place three times. Coach Andrews' Warriors never finished lower than fourth in The Sun Conference on the women's side and were only lower than fifth on the men's side once.
In 2018, Andrews' Lady Warriors finished at the runners-up at the Sun Conference Championships while freshman Samantha Davila was named both the TSC Women's Field Athlete of the Year and was also the TSC Women's Track & Field Freshman of the Year. Additionally, the Webber men's team finished third that year at conference.
Then, at the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships that same year, the Warriors men's and women's track & field teams combined to send 12 athletes to compete in four different events, the largest group sent to nationals under Coach Andrews.
Most recently, the 2020 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships served as the fifth and final All-American campaign for Dakari Hill, who Andrews coached up to being one of the most decorated Warriors of all-time. Hill earned five straight NAIA All-American honors in five tries in the high jump, three in indoor track & field and two in outdoor. He finished in fourth-place during all five of his national championship performances, and he is also the Webber school record holder in the high jump for both indoor (2.08/6'9.75"; 2019) and outdoor (6'8.75"/2.05; 2018) track & field.
In 2016, Andrews helped lead the Warriors' women's track & field team to its first Sun Conference Championship while the men's team finished as the runners-up.
Additionally, Coach Andrews was named both the NAIA South Region Women's Head Coach of the Year and the NAIA South Region Men's Head Coach of the Year during the indoor campaign.
In his first three years with the team, Andrews assisted Head Coach Pete Ormsby in producing a total of four All-Americans and 14 national qualifiers. The men finished as back-to-back Sun Conference runners-up and the women finished in third place for the second year in a row.
In his first campaign at the helm for the Warriors, the women finished second and the men were seventh, respectively. 18 Warriors were named all-conference were four pinned as conference champions and five as runners-up. Additionally, 10 (men and women) school records were broken.
The Warriors contested in four events (Long Jump, Triple Jump, 200m, and 4X100m relay) at the 2015 NAIA Outdoor National Championship held at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Junior jumper Charrie Dennard stayed in the top three nationally all season in the triple jump with a school record 12.33meters (40’5 ½”). Dennard also posted a 5.62meter (18’5 ¼”) long jump resulting in a school record.
Senior Marcela Solano became the first Warrior to qualify for the Olympics in the hammer throw at 60.63meters (200’1”) good for an “A” standard. She represented her home country of Chile at the 2016 Rio Olympic meet. She also garnered the Webber school record in the Weight throw 16.73(55’1 ¼”).
Coach Andrews has been coaching for 20 years. Doing stints at UMass Dartmouth for two years where he was responsible for sprints, jumps and relays, and 16 years coaching in the high school ranks between Massachusetts and Florida, most recently at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida.
Coach Andrews had also previously worked at the prestigious Florida State University track and field camp.
Dave graduated from UMass Dartmouth in 1996 with a BA in English Drama and Film Studies. While at UMass he was a member of the track and football (hall of famed ’96 team) teams. Dave received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Webber International University and is presently enrolled in the MBA program.
Coach Andrews and wife, Angel, have three kids: Cheyanne, Aaliyah and Elisha.
