Fort Myers, FL — The 8th ranked Webber International Baseball team battled back after an early deficit but could not slow Warner's offense, as the Warriors fell 9-3 on Friday afternoon at in the SUN Conference Tournament at JetBlue Park. Webber finished with seven hits and drew seven walks, but the Warriors left 13 runners on base in the loss.
Warner jumped ahead early with three runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second to build a 6-2 lead. Webber answered in the top of the second with a pair of runs to get back into the game. Will Gisriel started the inning with a double, and Austen Jaslove was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard. Skyler Schulz then delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring Gisriel and moving Jaslove to second. Keegan Martin followed with an RBI single to right field, bringing Jaslove home and cutting the deficit.
The Royals added another run in the bottom of the third, but Webber continued to pressure Warner starter Easton Nunez. In the fourth inning, Martin worked his way into scoring position and advanced to third on a flyout by Ty Mathews. With two outs, Jalen Martinez came through with an RBI single to center field, scoring Martin and making it a 7-3 game.
The Warriors had opportunities throughout the contest, drawing walks and putting runners on base in multiple innings, but Warner was able to limit the damage. Webber loaded the bases in the fifth and continued to put traffic on the bases late, but the Warriors were unable to push another run across. Warner added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 9-3.
Martin led the Warriors offensively, going 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and three walks. Martinez finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Schulz added a hit and an RBI. Gisriel recorded Webber's lone extra-base hit with a double and scored once, while Tugg Hollandsworth, Mathews and Mike Cuello each added a hit.
On the mound, Ryan Franklin started for the Warriors, while Austin Dobbins and Brandon Vazquez worked in relief. Vazquez tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing three hits and three walks while helping Webber keep Warner off the board in the seventh and eighth innings.
