Warriors Fall to Eagles in Top 10 Matchup

Babson Park, FL — The 10th ranked Webber International Men's Lacrosse team dropped an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup to NAIA #5 Reinhardt on Thursday afternoon, falling 11-2 at home after the Eagles used a big middle stretch to pull away. Reinhardt erased Webber's early lead with three unanswered goals in the opening quarter, then added four more in the second and two in the third to take control.

The Warriors struck first just 55 seconds into the contest when Isaiah Espaillat found the back of the net at the 14:05 mark of the first quarter, giving Webber an early 1-0 edge. Reinhardt answered with three goals over the final 8:36 of the quarter, however, as Marshall Cisco tied the match before Benjamin Shackelford and Bennett Morrison pushed the Eagles in front 3-1 heading into the second.

Webber had chances to climb back into the game in the second quarter, including multiple extra-man opportunities, but Reinhardt's defense and goalkeeper Michael Scoleri held firm. The Eagles instead continued to build their lead with four second-period goals, including scores from Shackelford, Luke Greer, Morrison and Rett Canon, to make it 7-1 at halftime.

Reinhardt added two more goals in the third quarter to stretch the margin to 9-1, with Carter Garrison and Nolan Marsh each scoring. Webber goalkeeper Colton Renkiewicz kept the Warriors in the fight with a strong afternoon in cage, finishing with 16 saves, including five in the second quarter and four in the third.

The Eagles opened the fourth with a man-up goal from Greer before Webber answered midway through the period. Nick Sheaffer scored the Warriors' second goal at the 8:00 mark off an assist from Benjamin Sheldon, but Reinhardt closed the scoring with Canon's second goal of the day for the 11-2 final.

Espaillat and Sheaffer each scored once for Webber, while Sheldon added an assist. Israel Miranda went 8-for-14 on faceoffs and collected a team-high seven ground balls, and Jacob Trickler contributed three caused turnovers. As a team, the Warriors won the faceoff battle 8-7, but Reinhardt held the edge in shots on goal (27-8) and forced 25 Webber turnovers.
